Installing a grill powered by natural gas is a wonderful step to take. You won't have to worry about staying stocked up on propane or charcoal. And your grill will always be right there when you need it! Installing a gas barbecue grill isn't too complicated, but there are a few errors you'll want to avoid along the way.

#1: Not getting a permit for the gas line.

If you have to run an extra gas line to connect to the grill, make sure you contact your local municipality first. Some towns and cities require you to pull a permit before doing this type of work. If you do need a permit and skip this step, you might face fines or be asked to remove your gas barbecue grill.

#2: Placing the grill near a window or door.

Gas barbecue grills do give off carbon monoxide as they burn their fuel. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can lead to symptoms such as headaches, confusion, nausea, and even death when inhaled. As such, you really do not want to place your barbecue grill anywhere near a door or a window where carbon monoxide could seep into the house.

#3: Not leaving enough space around the grill.

When people install their gas grills, they generally make sure there's enough room for them to stand near the grill as they cook food. But don't forget: when you're grilling at a party, people will want to socialize. You're going to have several other people who want to congregate near the grill, and you'll probably even want them there to hold food, hand you utensils, and so forth. So, make sure you leave lots of space when installing your grill.

#4: Choosing a grill that doesn't quite suit your needs.

Before you install a permanent gas grill, make sure the grill is actually one that suits your needs. Don't just pick a certain grill because it is the cheapest or the exterior looks nice. Make sure it's large enough, that it has the kinds of burners you want, and that you're comfortable with the temperature controls. Once it's in place, it's hard to swap out.

If you avoid the errors above when installing a grill, you're off to a good start. Overall, you'll just want to keep safety and utility in the forefront when tackling this grill project. You can also reach out to a professional like one at Thompson's Gas Inc for a gas barbecue installation.
